This 16-hour program involves skills of boat operation for rescue including boat selection, recommended equipment, boat handling, boat used rescue technique, and extrication from the water. This is a must-have course for any rescue unit involved with on-the-water operations. Emergency Boat Operations and Rescue course trains rescue personnel to select, outfit, operate, and rescue individuals utilizing boats as a rescue platform. Course components include classroom and practical hands-on training in: boat selection, rescue craft outfitting, boat handling, moving-water tactics, emergency boat procedures, and boat rescue techniques. Meets or exceeds NFPA 1670 Technician-level guidelines.

Gear: This class has special gear and equipment needs. Students bring the following: Customized Type III or V Personal Flotation Device (PFD) with knife, whistle, 2 locking carabineers Water rescue helmet (thermal liner optional) Wet or dry suit Swim suit Clothing Inner layer – silk, polypropylene or other combination Middle layer – wool, polyester pile (fleece), neoprene, other combinations (many available Outer layer – coated nylon or a breathable water and wind proof fabric (optional) Wet suit Dry suit (optional) River shoes or boots Hand and feet warmth: gloves (neoprene), socks (synthetic or woolblend/neoprene) Straps for glasses Fluids (water or sports drink) High energy foods Sun screen (SPF 15 minimum recommended) Personal items (first aid kit, medications, personal hygiene supplies)

Prerequisites: Age 18 and up, Water Rescue & Emergency Response (WRER) 

Hours: 16.0 (Lecture: 4.5hrs / Lab: 11.5hrs)
